A portion of the film “Tuoikitoa”, which will be released in Finland in October under the sponsorship of the Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation (ALTAV), is being filmed in Alanya. The film's production crew, whose premiere will take place in Finland in October, visited Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu and provided information regarding the filming.
Based on the sponsorship agreement made by ALTAV with Pysymetsa Oy Yapım Şirketi in March 2009, filming has begun on May 11 for the movie featuring director Saara Cantell, producer Essi Haukkamaa, and actors Johanna Af Schulten and Rosa Salomaa. Saara Cantell, who is very well known in the Scandinavian countries and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Finland Film Directors Association, announced that the film Tuoikitoa will be released in 30 cities simultaneously in Finland following a gala to be held in October and will remain in theaters in various cities for 3-4 months. Director Cantell stated that they expect at least 150 thousand people to watch the film during its run in Finnish cinemas, after which the film's distributor, Nordisk Film, will begin distributing the film in other countries.
Stating that following the cinema screenings, the film will continue to be distributed as DVD and Blu-ray and will also be broadcast on national and private channels in Finland and on Finland's YLE in 2010, Saara Cantell said, “The film will also compete at the Cannes Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival, and the Gothenburg Film Festival through the Finnish Film Foundation. The promotion of the film will be carried out through interviews and news in radio, TV, and the written press before the gala in October. The film consists of 7 stories that have their own integrity, and the Alanya shoots constitute one of these stories.”
Additionally; stating that a giant Alanya poster was used in the background in one of the segments of the film shot last month in Finland, the director Ms. Cantell continued her statements regarding the film, saying, “The name and logo of Alanya will be included in all promotional materials, posters, press releases, and websites of the film. In the segment where the Alanya shoots were conducted, there will be emphases and visual elements regarding the beauty of Alanya. Since the film will be screened outside of Finland as well, the promotional materials will be prepared in two languages, Finnish and English.”
Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu thanked the film crew, stating that Alanya is the destination that attracts the most tourists from the Scandinavian countries in Türkiye, and that the name Alanya frequently comes up in the written and visual media of these countries. Mayor Sipahioğlu also added to his remarks that the film, shot through the initiatives of ALTAV and with the support of Alanya Municipality and the Alanya Tourist Operators Association (ALTAV), will make a great contribution to the promotion of Alanya.
The film is sponsored by Finland’s world-famous textile company Marimekko and jewelry company Kalevala Koru.
