The 1st Alanya Sand Sculpture Competition, organized by Alanya Hamdullah Emin Paşa (HEP) University in cooperation with Alanya Municipality, was held at Galip Dere Beach. In the competition, which drew interest from students of Özel Alanya HEP Koleji Primary School and Alanya HEP University Department of Architecture, as well as amateur participants from the public, the sand sculpture named “Horse” won first prize, while the works named “Sphinx” and “Hand” shared second place with equal scores. The work named “Taj Mahal” was awarded third place.
“IT WILL CONTINUE IN THE COMING YEARS”
In the competition, where Burhan Sili, Mehmet Ali Dim, Nazmi Uyar, Meltem Gemalmayan, and Bilgehan Kamacı served as jurors, the work “Medusa” by Iranian professional sculptor Mahdi Khakpour drew great interest. Making a statement regarding the purpose of the event, Alanya HEP University Faculty of Architecture Dean Zeynep Onur stated that they were bringing educational institutions together with Alanya, saying, “Students and citizens continued their activities throughout the day by swimming in the sea, making sculptures, and singing songs. With our event, which took place in a festival atmosphere, we wanted to show that education should not be restricted to within four walls. We will continue our competition, which we launched by touching the city we are in, by growing it even further in the following years.” Mercan Kırtasiye, Ergün Kırtasiye, Ofis Alanya, La Vie Kafe, Shakespeare Kafe, Mc Donalds, Leman Kültür, and Doctors Kafe sponsored the event.
