Speaking at the event, which was also attended by Alanya District Governor Mustafa Harputlu and Alanya Mayor Adem Murat Yücel, Alanya City Council President Nurhan Özcan stated that with this project, they wanted to reintroduce the nearly forgotten art and cultivation of gourd growing to the public and put it into practice, saying, “In our tourism city of Alanya, we want to grow gourds symbolically in the streets and parks. Additionally, we aim to ensure that cultivation spreads throughout the neighborhoods to generate financial gain. We currently have 30,000 elite seeds in our possession. We have delivered 10,000 of these to Alanya Municipality. Once these seeds, the planting of which we have started, turn into seedlings, we will distribute them to villagers, our public, and our tourism professionals. As a continuation of the project, we will hold a workshop in Alanya with gourd decoration masters from all over Turkey. During this workshop, which will last for a few days, we will provide free gourd decoration training to our public, our students, our foreign residents, and the tourists vacationing in our region.”
