The World Travel Market (WTM), one of the world's largest tourism fairs, held in London, the capital of England, between November 8-11, brought smiles to the face of the Turkish tourism sector. The fair, which was attended by ALTİD President Gülçin Güner as Alanya, proved to be highly productive.
Ahmet Barut, President of the Association of Turkish Hotel Association (TÜROFED), stated that they expect double-digit growth in 2011 and hope that the number of British tourists coming to Türkiye will exceed the 3 million threshold.
Türkiye made a full-scale presence at the WTM Fair, which is of great importance for presenting the first data regarding markets for 2011 to global tourism professionals, with extensive participation ranging from the Ministry to private sector organizations.
In his evaluations regarding WTM, TÜROFED President Ahmet Barut stated that the fair was very successful for Türkiye and emphasized that England is the country that exports the most tourists, along with Germany.
Stating that they saw growth continuing in 2011 during their meetings with tour operators at WTM, Ahmet Barut said that the initial sales realized at the fair confirmed these expectations.
Ahmet Barut stated, “Double-digit growth is expected in 2011, and he hopes that the 3 million threshold will also be exceeded in terms of British tourists coming to Türkiye in 2011.” Saying that their main target regarding British tourists is to exceed the figure of 4 million tourists, just like in the German market, Ahmet Barut said, “We see this target as achievable in the very near future. Because as the British get to know Türkiye, they love it more, and as they love it more, they come more. I would also like to state that developing products suitable for the British will create significant attraction in this increase.”
