Within the scope of the "Alanya Wave Surfing Days Project," implemented by the Alanya Association of Tourism Professionals (ALTİD) and supported by the Western Mediterranean Development Agency's (BAKA) Financial Support Program for the Development of Alternative Tourism, surfers in Alanya practically danced with the waves in November. A surfer in a Santa Claus costume created an interesting sight.
'A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE IN ALANYA'
Tunç Üçyıldız, who lives in the state of New York in the United States and is in Alanya for surfing, said, "I was very excited when I heard that surfing was being done in Alanya in March 2013. I have surfed before in places such as New York, New Jersey, California, Hawai, Portoriko, Kostarika, and Panama. The initiation of this activity in Alanya is very important in terms of sports tourism. We surfers are having a pleasant experience in a beautiful climate and with a view accompanied by the historic Alanya Castle."
'I PLAN TO COME AGAIN'
Providing information regarding the 2nd Turkish Wave Surfing Championship held in Alanya in recent days, Üçyıldız stated, "Efforts to establish the Turkish Surfing Federation under the umbrella of the Emerging Sports Branches Federation are ongoing. The Turkish Championship held in Alanya, which was attended by nearly 30 athletes, holds great importance in this regard. The struggle of surfing in Turkey is also resonating worldwide. Turkey has made its name as the 72nd country in the World Surfing Federation. I will show the video recordings we made during my time in Alanya to the participants at the world championship to be held in Peru next November. I plan to come to Alanya again for surfing in January."
