While terrorism, political, and economic crises are striking the tourism sector worldwide, the statements made by a German vacationer have practically spread hope. 65-year-old Edelgard Schlösser from Düsseldorf, Germany, stating that she has been coming to Alanya for 25 years, expressed that she is sad and disturbed by the recent developments occurring globally and emphasized that peoples should live together in brotherhood by remaining outside of politics.
“I STAY FOR TWO WEEKS EVERY TIME I COME”
Schlösser, who first came to Alanya in 1991, stated that when he got to know Alanya and its people, he discovered that the region possessed a unique character, and noted that he visited Alanya twice a year until 2008, and three times a year thereafter. Saying that he also had the opportunity to get to know historical and touristic regions such as Antalya, Bodrum, Belek, and Istanbul, Schlösser said, “Alanya is something else for me. Every time I come, I stay in hotels for at least 2 weeks.” Sharing his views on many subjects, from his hobbies to his future plans, and from his experiences to terrorist incidents and economic crises occurring worldwide, the remarkable assessments of the German vacationer Schlösser are as follows:
“I AM COMING TO TURKEY ALONE”
I always come to Türkiye alone and I am not afraid of any negativity experienced here. People who know Alanya and those who know the Turkish people do not hesitate to be here. In Germany, France, Sweden, the Netherlands, Belgium, and America, terrorism is now everywhere. They want to frighten people. We must not be afraid. We must be in the streets all over the world. We must not fulfill the wishes of terrorism.
“WE ARE NOT POLITICIANS, WE ARE THE PEOPLE AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID”
Regarding the crisis occurring between Russia and Turkey, I think as follows: We are people, not politicians. We act with our emotions. I have very old Russian guests in Alanya who are my friends. They all continue to come to Alanya. Like me, they are not afraid.
“I WILL STAY LONGER EVEN AFTER I RETIRE”
I work at the Düsseldorf Municipality. After I retire at the end of August, I can stay in Alanya for longer periods. For now, I stay for at least two weeks every time I visit. I taught myself Turkish. Thanks to my Turkish friends, the Turkish lessons and music I listened to with the headphones I acquired were very useful. But Turkish is not easy. My hobbies are driving, tennis, cycling, cinema, and theater. I love walking and shopping in Alanya. I take advantage of the sunny weather at every opportunity.

I have stayed in many hotels. I have stayed in countries such as Portugal, Spain, Greece, Morocco, Tunisia, and Italy. Alanya hotels are at a good level in terms of service and cleanliness. The staff is also very polite.
