Norwegian journalist Tone Solheim arrived in Alanya to hold meetings with ALTAV, Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu, and the Association of Norwegians in Alanya, after participating in a press briefing given by an 8-person press group during the Norway Fair organized by the Alanya Tourism Promotion Foundation.
In an interview with Mayor Hasan Sipahioğlu, Tone Solheim stated that she was fascinated by Alanya, which she was visiting for the first time, saying, “I have seen and visited many cities in Turkey before, but this is my first time in Alanya; I now better understand why Norwegians buy houses here.”
When Jone Solheim asked what the municipality's plans are for protecting the environment, Mayor Sipahioğlu replied, “We made a choice between vehicles and urban life; by shifting heavy-tonnage vehicles to the ring road, we pedestrianized the roads within the city. We organized walking paths for citizens and established bicycle terminals at 20 points. We have carried out works to prevent environmental pollution.”
Stating that according to her research, city bicycles are very well-liked, journalist Solheim received information from the Mayor regarding the bicycle operating system.
Mayor Sipahioğlu also noted that a project has been prepared regarding the utilization of solar energy in the lighting of parks, and this system is currently being used in one park.
Norwegian journalist Solheim, stating that Alanya has a rich history, asked whether the Municipality has any work regarding Alanya Castle. Providing information about the Kızılkule – Tophane Axis Project Maritime and Ship Museum, the Mayor said that work for the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Candidacy of Alanya Castle and the Shipyard is continuing rapidly.
Providing information about the marina and the fishing harbor as well, Mayor Sipahioğlu said, “People from many countries prefer this place to settle or for vacation. It is very easy for retired people to live here. Both cruise tourism and marine tourism are very important for Alanya.”
