It was stated that although the number of passengers arriving in Antalya increased from 2016 until the end of November 2017, profitability did not increase at the same rate due to falling prices, and this situation has affected tourism tradesmen. It was expressed that data was collected from 70 hotels through the Nova ALTİD Analysis Regional Data Program to determine the tourist profile in Alanya, and that 43 percent of those staying during the June-October period were from Russia, 15 percent from the domestic market, and 11 percent from Germany. At the Okurcalar meeting, hotel operators stated that no solutions could be found for problems such as sewage odors, water outages, inadequate street lighting, and road repairs.

“NUMBER OF TOURISTS INCREASED, BUT PER CAPITA INCOME DECREASED”
“While the number of passengers arriving in Antalya from airports reached 6.5 million in 2016, it approached 10 million as of the end of November 2017. This increase seen in passenger numbers did not reflect in profits to the same extent due to falling prices. This situation has affected tourism tradespeople and all sectors dependent on tourism. Although the Russian market has significantly relieved the sector, there will be a profitability problem due to prices as long as we cannot achieve the same success in the European market. The vast majority of hotels in the coastal region will either have to close in winter or operate by accepting losses. The fact that Egypt, which appeals to a similar tourist profile, will reopen to Russian tourism in 2018 is also a matter we must take into consideration.”
“EXCESSIVE DISCOUNTS HARM TOURISM”
From our experiences, we know that it is not easy to raise prices once they have been lowered; it takes time. Staying in hotels, providing good service, and offering good hospitality have a cost. The tourism sector knows this very well. If marketing is conducted below a certain price point, one is forced to compromise on the quality of service and products. This harms our tourism in the long run. Early booking discounts and promotional figures should be at reasonable levels. We are all in the same boat.
“ONE OF ALANYA’S IMPORTANT TOURISM PROJECTS”
“We are working to expand the ‘Nova ALTİD Analysis Regional Data Program’ across Alanya hotels. We will create a tourist profile map of Alanya, region by region, with data on nationality, gender, age group, and number of overnight stays. Currently, we are receiving data from 70 hotels through this program. The more we can increase this number, the more accurate information we will reach. I invite all hotel operators to this study, which is one of Alanya’s most important tourism projects. Between June and October, the tourist percentages staying in Alanya by nationality are as follows: Russia 43 percent, domestic market 15 percent, Germany 11 percent, Denmark 5 percent, Ukraine 4 percent, and other countries 22 percent.”
PROBLEMS WERE LAID ON THE TABLE
At the Okurcalar meeting, despite being conveyed to the authorities, the region's hotel operators stated that no solutions have been found for complaints regarding bad odors in ASAT sewage pumping stations, especially during the summer months; water outages or decreased pressure during the summer months; insufficient street lighting between hotels; roads that have not been built or whose repairs are delayed; and the inadequacy of the maintenance and repairs of underpasses.
